ADC Pebika Lego Calls for Collective Responsibility in Empowering Every Girl Child

WCD celebrate IWD 20226 in East Siang

PASIGHAT, March 08, 2026: The Department of Women & Child Development (WCD), East Siang, celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026 here today in a befitting manner under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and IPR Department, under the aegis of the District Administration. The event aimed to honour the invaluable contributions of women towards nation-building and to create awareness on various schemes for the girl child, women and legal services under DLSA.

Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, ADC (Hq) Pebika Lego, IAS (2023 batch), lauded the women participants for their meaningful contributions across administration, governance, legal services, health, education, skill development, tourism and other sectors. She emphasised the collective responsibility of society in creating opportunities and enabling environments for women and every girl child, highlighting the positive impact such efforts have on the community as a whole.

An awareness session on “Property Rights for Girl Child” was delivered by Epi Kapu, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Siang.

DD ICDS, Mailong T. Padung highlighted the significance of commemorating International Women’s Day under the theme “Give & Gain”, stressing the need to strengthen efforts for women empowerment. He added that awareness on women-centric schemes, legal rights and provisions remains a key feature of the celebration.

Among others, the event was attended by Assistant Commissioner Yamo Tamut; Joint DHS, BPGH & TC I/C-cum-Medical Superintendent Dr. Y.R. Darang; CJM-cum-DLSA Secretary Epi Kapu; Centre Administrator, One Stop Centre (OSC), Pasighat, Adv. Mary Tatak; Retainer Lawyer, DLSA, Adv. Sunny Tayeng; CDPOs; and women Heads of Departments of East Siang.

As part of grassroots outreach, International Women’s Day was also celebrated at Ayeng village community hall (Ayeng Musup) by WCD in collaboration with the IPR Department, with participation of more than sixty women, including SHG members, senior citizens and Gram Sevikas. ZPM Bomken Tayeng (Mebo Banggo-II) attended as Chief Guest.

On the occasion, DD ICDS M.T. Padung highlighted BBBP and various welfare and social security schemes, while CDPO Mebo, Ateng Pertin, spoke on the significance of International Women’s Day.
