19th District NCORD Meeting stress on community participation for drug free East Siang

PASIGHAT, March 27, 2026: The 19th NCORD Review Meeting in East Siang reiterated the vital role of community participation in building a drug-free district. Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, who chaired the monthly meeting today at the DC’s Conference Hall, emphasised that grassroots initiatives and active community support are key to strengthening the efforts of the District Administration, as local communities have a deeper understanding of ground realities.

The DC also directed strong joint action by the Police and Excise Department for coordinated patrolling and checking at interstate border checkpoints in view of the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the ensuing Assam Legislative Assembly elections.

“We are committed to creating greater awareness through community participation so that our collective and tireless efforts toward a better and brighter future for our youth and coming generations bear fruit,” the DC stated.

During the review meeting, the DC assessed the progress made by various stakeholder departments in skilling recovering youth in different trades under Project Arohit, an initiative of the East Siang District Administration. Enforcement actions carried out under the Excise Act, adherence to and registration under SOP guidelines, and drug awareness campaigns under VADA by the East Siang Police were also reviewed.

The implementation of various measures and related issues was discussed in detail with respective nodal officers, and inputs were gathered from stakeholders to further strengthen ongoing initiatives.

Padung; AD (Industry) Anima Gammeng; Nodal Officer, Government Drug De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Jarkong, Pasighat, Dr. Oson Borang; and in-charges of various Drug De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centres in East Siang.
