National Science Day Observed at JNC with Exposure Visit to CAU, Pasighat

PASIGHAT, March 01: To observe National Science Day on 28 February 2026, the Science Club of Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC), Pasighat, organised an educational field visit to the College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat. Around 50 students from B.Sc. VI Semester of JNC participated in the visit.

The students were escorted by faculty members from various science departments—Dr. S. Jayanthi, Mr. Yumi Nori, Dr. Leki Wangchu and Dr. Bengia Mamu—along with the President of the Science Club, Ms. Hage Yalu.

The exposure programme was well coordinated by Prof. Ramesh Chandra Shakywar, Associate Professor, Department of Plant Pathology. At the outset, the students were given a brief history of the College of Agriculture and an overview of the courses offered by the institution by Dr. Mahesh Kumar from the Department of Biochemistry.

The visit began with a tour of the 5G Laboratory, where Prof. Premaradhya N. from the Department of Agronomy highlighted its features and explained advanced agricultural technologies such as drones and 3D printing.

The students then visited the Centre of Excellence for Millet Production, guided by Dr. Pawan Kumar, where they learned about the production and packaging of various millet products. The group also visited the Department of Plant Pathology, where Dr. Girish Chand, Head of the Department, addressed the students.

Further visits included the Entomology section guided by Dr. N.Y. Chanu; the Department of Post-Harvest Management addressed by Dr. Helen Soibam; the Honey Testing Centre; and the College Library.

The field visit concluded with a lunch session followed by a tour of the newly inaugurated Agro-Eco Tourism Park.
