7th district level Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament at Pasighat

PASIGHAT, July 28: The 7th district level Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament got off to a colourful start at the Jawaharlal Nehru College playground here on Saturday afternoon with a grand successful opening ceremony amidst hundreds of soccer lovers. East Siang SP Prashant Gautam graced the occasion as Chief Guest and other dignitaries present were DDSE cum Organizing Chairman Jongge Yirang, President T. Padung, Secretary K. Komut, Advisor T. Taloh.

Stressing on fair-play, SP Prashant Gautam said, “It is good that football is being promoted and I hope the tournament is a success.” He advised the participants to be disciplined and show their best talents to the audience. Such sporting activities develop leadership, hardworking, concentration, foster unity and brotherhood among the youths, he stated.

There are 39 boys teams from government and private Secondary and Higher Secondary schools while 19 girls teams are participating for the first time in the tournament. In the opening matches, Mirku Secondary School boys team trounced Kendriya Vidyalaya 1-0 and IGJ Hr. Sec. School girls defeated the Gandhi Sec. School by a margin of 2-0 goals.

K. Darin of Mirku Secondary School boys team scored the lone winning goal and Tina Apum representing IGJ Higher Secondary School girls team netted two goals in the opening matches.
