Department of Horticulture Empowers Farmers with 2-days Mushroom Cultivation Training in Pasighat

PASIGHAT, February 27: A comprehensive two-day training and demonstration programme on “Mushroom Cultivation Technology” was successfully concluded today at the Mushroom Development Centre (MDC), GTC Pasighat, organised by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, from 26/02/2026 to 27/02/2026.

The programme saw an overwhelming response with over 50 trainee farmers in attendance, including progressive farmers, unemployed youth and members of various Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Pasighat, Mebo, Ruksin circle and also from Aalo in West Siang district.

The inaugural session was graced by A.R. Ering, District Horticulture Officer (DHO), Pasighat; Dr. R.C. Shakywar, Professor, Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, Pasighat; Smti Oyi Modi, Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Pasighat; Dr. Aido Taloh, Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Aalo; and Ms. Nuka Dai, Horticulture Development Officer (HDO) and in-charge, Mushroom Development Centre (MDC), Pasighat.

The District Horticulture Officer welcomed all participants and emphasised the commercial potential of mushroom farming as a sustainable livelihood. She stated that mushroom farming is not just a seasonal activity but a profitable venture that requires minimal space and offers high returns.

The technical session was led by Dr. R.C. Shakywar, who provided in-depth knowledge on the cultivation of oyster and button mushrooms, focusing on climate control, pest and disease management. Ms. Nuka Dai conducted practical demonstrations on spawn production and bed preparation.

To ensure that the training translates into immediate on-ground action, input support kits (high-quality spawn), informative pamphlets and participation certificates were distributed to all trainees.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Birung Osik, Horticulture Field Assistant (HFA), MDC Pasighat.
